Just a quick note to let everyone know we're still here and living in the lap of luxury by current Houston standards. We have power, clean water, AND the internet. So all is right with our little corner of the world.
We did lose power for about 36 hours with a few well timed "blips" in between to cool down the house and the freezer. Our neighborhood fared pretty well with some damage to fences and trees. At our house, the weakest side of our fence (which we agreed with the neighbor to work on replacing just last week) was blown almost over. All told, we were very fortunate and as of this afternoon, there are still parts of our neighborhood without power.
About 3 miles from us, Kim's office is also still without power, so he is going on his fourth "hurricane day." It feels really odd to have all this time off without any big project to work on or place to go. I think going to the beach is out for awhile... We are grateful to have a chance to catch our breathe after this crazy summer and that we don't have any big Hurricane Ike provided projects to work on. It is sobering to think of the millions across Houston who have their work cut out for them.
