The Anti-Snow Day

There is a festive atmosphere on the streets today. Kids are flying kites and the adults are fired up about the hurricane. Seems a bit odd, but I guess this is the closet thing we will get to a snow day in southeast Texas. Kim and I have decided to stick around, since the winds are not forecasted to be that high on our side of town. Katy is nowhere near the Gulf, as we are reminded whenever we decide to go to the beach for the day and it takes forever to get there.

This morning we were walking to the park (with our own kite in hand) and some of the neighbors yelled over, "ready to party with Ike?" This from the same people with whom we exchange a cordial nod when they park in front of our driveway to get their mail. Hurricanes seem to be great ice-breakers, but perhaps Pat O'Brian knew that all along.

We have bottled water, peanut butter, snickers, and kit-kats. We are ready.
