May: 18 on 11.

May's 10 on 10 fell on the Friday before our annual Rowdy Rebels camping trip and since all I was doing was packing (and packing, and packing) inside while it poured outside, I decided to move the date a day.

This year we returned to Lake Bastrop and were thankful that the campground was spared while the wildfires raged through the area. The Bowling family was just able to check in and get our camp unpacked just before the deluge started.  Saturday dawned bright and lovely.

Coffee is big on Kim's must have list.

First nap of the day.  She did go to sleep.

We all decided to leave the boats at home this year and chill a little more.  Two of our enterprising moms planned all sorts of activities for the kids.  They started with fruit loop necklaces.

My kids tend to forget they are wearing helmets once they get off their bikes.  Running through the woods while wearing a helmet seems like a good idea to me.  Safety first!

Then we moved on to face painting.

Flash.

Butterfly.
Then we all embarked on a nature walk with baggies for the kids to collect their treasures.

Emery with her (at least in Emery's mind) BFF Abigail.

Nell enjoyed chewing on her carrier until she decided a nap might be more fun.

Later in the day, we let the kids cavort in the lake.  They delighted in swimming, filling buckets, and flinging seaweed at each other.

Fun.

Eleanor stayed in the shade.

After dinner and a few pictures, Emily read the kids a story around the campfire.  They were spellbound.

After the kids went to bed, the grown ups hung out by the campfire and played our annual game of boys vs. girls Catchphrase.  Kim made the event more memorable by building a fire so hot that most of us are still growing back our eyebrows. Even the fireants fled the scene, biting a few campers as they made their exodus.

Big Kids

All the kids (except Nell and Owen)

It was an awesome trip which will probably be remembered best for the stomach bug that almost every family returned home with.  I think I'll leave a barf bucket off the annual t-shirt...

As we were packing up on Sunday morning, who should I see but this fellow, who discovered one of those fruit loop necklaces.  A nice parting shot.
