Happy Mother's Day To Me!

Who says romance is dead?

Guess what I got for mother's day? A boat! We have been looking for awhile now and about two weeks ago, Kim found the perfect boat at a dealer in Houston. It took a week for the dealer to find the man who consigned the boat to make the offer and a week to get the title and papers in order. The stars aligned just in time for mother's day!

All kidding aside, we were able to go out Sunday for a day reminiscent of our Austin days. If I blocked out the two kids and the dog bounding all over the boat, that is.

Alastair had been over the moon excited for the week leading up to Saturday, the day Daddy and he went to pick it up. He didn't stop grinning the whole time we were out on the water either. It was an extra special day because he got to have his very own can of root beer, which he refused to put down and kept wanting Kim and I to hold for him, despite the cup holders everywhere.

Emery liked the boat too although she was not going to get in the water under any circumstances. Kim wouldn't have gotten in either although he was well aware that after campaigning for a ski boat for so long, there was no way he was going to get out of skiing. It was chilly but he got up for a few slalom runs. The verdict: two thumbs up on the boat but his wife demands a ski mirror. Pulling him with a baby in my lap, a dog running all over the place, and a gargling (don't ask) child was more than a little stressful.

Also stressful was the discovery that Lake Somerville doesn't really offer any dining options. Emery was a real trooper since her lunch consisted of a bit of brisket, a full bag of chips (a first!) and water. Next time we are packing full meals for everyone.

Alastair was really cool and swam with me until his lips started to turn a bit blue. He liked jumping off the swim platform and told me, "I tried it. And I LIKED IT! I like swimming in the lake!" This was after he asked Kim in depth questions about whether there were bull sharks in the lake. As if we didn't already know he was related to me.



After a few hours on the lake, we headed home to have dinner with this woman, who was kind enough to pick up her own mother's day dinner that I ordered (and paid for!) as we drove to her house. There was no way we were restaurant ready after a day in the sun and bobbing around in lake water.

It was a fun but super tiring day. We've got our routine down now and anticipate next time we can get an earlier start for an earlier and smoother evening.

We should have more time on the weekends since t-ball ended Saturday. Alastair is already fired up for soccer. As far as I'm concerned, soccer can wait a few months! We need a break.
