Alastair's Birthday Weekend: The Party Continues

Alastair's party was actually the day before he turned four and we had another little party for him at home. The initial plan was to spend the day at the zoo but as we awoke to rain, our plans changed. Thanks for the blessing of rain to give us a day off! Alastair was pretty worn out after his late night and really wanted a chance to try out all his new toys.

Like his new baby dumptruck "Rolley" that needed to cruise through the house in Emery's stroller. I think this is the difference between boys and girls: they both want the stroller, but the baby looks a whole lot different.

Alastair's favorite present was his Sheriff Woody doll, which we customized with his name on his boot, just like in the movie.

Buzz and Woody were happy to be reunited at long last.

The next day we packed up and headed to Camp Wood for a surprise family reunion. Everyone was in town for Labor Day, including Kim's cousins Chris and Kristen, who are so much fun. They have two beautiful daughters, one of whom is just Alastair's age. Although Alastair had a little trouble remembering her name, Melanie, not Nelery, they really enjoyed each other.

Grandad claims he borrowed this tractor because he knew Alastair would love it. I know it was really because he knew his daughter in law would love the photographic potential.

They are so cute together.

Can I buy a tractor for the backyard please?

Em, so happy to be out of the car.

Emery loosened up earlier than she usually does for the crew although the clear favorite is Grandad. That is when Alastair would let her near him. Grandad is very patient and takes Alastair on limitless golf cart rides, fish feedings, and even let him pick tomatoes which is Alastair's idea of heaven. If only there were a Polaris around...

Enter Great Grandad's new toy. I'm not sure this really classifies as a four wheeler as it has a roof, seat belts, and chrome wheels. It is pretty cool and Melanie and Alastair were thrilled to go for a ride. Aren't they cute holding hands? Alastair has ridden with his father before.

When we first got to Great Grandad's and Alastair saw the new toy, he was in awe right up until he saw that G. Grandad had a wagon just like Grandad's. The Polaris has nothing on the souped up wagon. Alastair talks about this when he is at home even more than he talks about the powered golf cart.

Melanie and he pulled each other all over the place.

Feeding the fish blueberry bagels. Which Alastair also was eating.

The river was really low this year and pretty icky in spots where the water really isn't flowing. My very patient husband found us a good spot for wading where the water was zipping along, clear, and not too deep for the kiddos.

Alastair loved throwing rocks, although we had to coach him not to throw them in our direction.

And little sis was happy as usual to be along for the ride.

Our happy family. Tired, but together in search of adventure.
