I'm a born again blogger. Really, I swear. The trouble with being really busy is that while you accumulate lots of fun pictures to share, there is little time left over to upload them, imparting witty repartee along the way...

There must be Miracle Gro in the water at our house these days. Alastair seems to have suddenly become taller than most of the kids in his playgroup. Our backyard garden is off to a great start, despite suffering frequent setbacks from our favorite little gardener... Alastair loves to help Daddy water and tend to the plants but has embraced picking the fruit a bit earlier than we would like... The tomatoes don't get much bigger than this before they end up inside to ripen. Note to selves: next year plant only cherry tomatoes!

This little beauty only lasted 24 hours from when I took this picture... We have had great luck with green beans this year and Alastair has even eaten one. Perhaps that "one" was a combination of several little bites over the course of the last two months. But it counts!

One of the highlights of our summer so far was the day we went to pick blueberries in Conroe. Actually, "middle of nowhere" Texas might be a more apt term. Basically, we left the freeway and drove until we could hear banjo music. Another left and we were there! In about an hour, I picked just over 9 pounds of beautiful blueberries. And without a single mosquito or black fly bite! Heaven.

Alastair enjoyed more than his share of blueberries (apparently Daddies don't automatically know not to let babies eat as many blueberries as they want) and it was, ahem, a colorful afternoon. Good thing they don't weigh the kids coming in and again on the way out!

Another highlight was a visit from Uncle Skippy (known elsewhere as Chris). Skippy was in a horrible tree collision while navigating during a rally race in New York. He suffered two broken vertebrae, a broken foot, and several lacerations. In fact, he and Kim now have matching scars on their chins from their respective accidents. Since we saw him last year in Maine, Skippy spent the better part of a month in hospitals. It was great to see him doing so well and we're thankful he is still around.

Alastair has been really busy with his playgroup pals. Here he is befriending a duck at Mary Jo Peckham Park. One goldfish for Alastair, one for the duck, one for Alastair, one for Alastair, one for the duck...

Working at the car wash: Alastair helps Daddy get his car spiffed up. Note the little ride along toy that he was also focused on. This time of year, most of our activities are in the water or close enough to it to cool off a bit in between playing and snacking.

This morning we met the playgroup at our pool with its completely new playground. Did we have toys this cool at our playground when I was little? The propeller and rudder blades even rotate! Too cool.
